Overview
Is your Etsy shop on ChatGPT? If you sell in the United States, there is a reasonable chance it already is, and nobody asked you.
That is not a complaint, and for most sellers it is good news. But it illustrates the thing every marketplace seller now has to understand: your visibility in AI shopping is currently being decided by the marketplace you sell on, not by you. Etsy said yes. Shopify said yes. Amazon chose a different route. eBay and TikTok Shop have not publicly committed.
Here is what is actually true for each channel, how to tell whether your Etsy shop is on ChatGPT right now, what you can influence, and what you cannot.
Is your Etsy shop on ChatGPT already?
Probably, if you sell in the US.
Etsy partnered with OpenAI to enable AI-powered shopping, and ChatGPT users in the United States can discover and browse Etsy items inside the assistant. Etsy has since gone further and launched its own app inside ChatGPT for conversational search.
One correction worth making to almost everything written about this in 2025. Buying no longer happens inside the assistant. OpenAI retired Instant Checkout in March 2026, saying the first version lacked the flexibility it wanted, and refocused on product discovery with the purchase completed in the merchant’s own environment. For an Etsy seller that changes very little in practice and one thing in principle: the assistant is a recommendation surface, and the sale still closes on Etsy.
The enrolment mechanism is the part sellers miss. US Etsy sellers were brought in through the Offsite Ads programme, and enrolment there is automatic. So participation was not an individual decision for most people.
Whether you can leave comes down to one number, and Etsy publishes the rule. If your shop has taken $10,000 or more in any consecutive 365-day period since 20 February 2019, you participate in Offsite Ads for the lifetime of the shop, even if your sales later fall below it, and you pay 12% on attributed orders. If you have never crossed $10,000, you are enrolled automatically, you pay 15% on attributed orders, and you may opt out.
Read that twice, because it inverts the usual logic. The sellers big enough to care about a 12% fee are the ones with no exit. The sellers who can opt out are the ones for whom the extra visibility probably matters most.
The practical consequence: you do not need to do anything to get your Etsy shop on ChatGPT. Any product listed on Etsy can appear in ChatGPT shopping results, because the integration reads Etsy’s existing catalog. What you do need to do is be the listing the assistant chooses.
Being eligible is free. Being chosen is about your product data.
Nembol keeps one well-written record and publishes it to every channel you sell on, with stock synced across all of them.

How do you optimise marketplace listings for AI shopping?
This is the most useful thing to understand, and it is genuinely good news, because it means the work you already do counts twice.
An AI assistant answering “what is a good handmade necklace for a bridesmaid gift under $30?” is matching that sentence against product data. It is not reading a keyword field. It is reading titles, descriptions, attributes and images, and it is summarising and comparing on the buyer’s behalf.
Which means the listing that wins is the one that answers a specific, conversational question rather than the one that stuffs the most keywords into a title.
Three changes that help immediately:
- Write titles that describe the product, not the search. “Sterling silver bridesmaid necklace with freshwater pearl, gift boxed” beats “Necklace Gift For Her Bridesmaid Wedding Jewelry Silver Pearl Handmade”. The second one was written for a keyword matcher. The first one can be recommended by an assistant.
- Answer the long-tail question in the description. Who is it for, what occasion, what size, what material, how fast does it ship. Those are the constraints buyers put in their prompts.
- Fill the attributes. Material, colour, size, occasion, recipient. These are structured fields an assistant can filter on, and most sellers leave half of them empty.
What can sellers actually control in AI shopping?
You control:
- Your product data
- Images
- Attributes
- Stock accuracy
- Pricing
- Whether your own website allows AI crawlers
You do not control: whether your marketplace has a syndication deal, whether that deal continues, which products it includes, or what commission applies to a resulting sale. Nor do you control which standard your marketplace backs. Amazon advertises into ChatGPT while also holding a seat on the Universal Commerce Protocol technical committee, the rival Google and Shopify standard, which it joined in April 2026 alongside Meta, Microsoft, Salesforce and Stripe. The platforms are hedging. You should assume the deal you benefit from today is a position, not a commitment.
Having your Etsy shop on ChatGPT is a deal Etsy struck, not a position you earned, and it can be unstruck. That asymmetry is the whole strategic argument for selling in more than one place. Every additional channel is another route by which an assistant might find you, and each route is somebody else’s decision to open or close.
It is also the argument for having your own storefront. Your Etsy shop on ChatGPT is Etsy’s asset as much as yours; a storefront you own is the one surface where the syndication decision is yours.
One catalogue, many routes in. Etsy, eBay, Amazon, TikTok Shop and your own storefront from a single product record. Free to try, no credit card.
What should marketplace sellers do this month?
- Check whether your Etsy shop is on ChatGPT by searching for your own products in natural language, the way a buyer would rather than by brand name.
- Check whether you are enrolled in Etsy Offsite Ads, and whether you are allowed to leave. Above $10,000 in any rolling year you are in permanently at 12%. Below it you are in by default at 15% and can opt out. Either way, if you are in, optimise for it rather than ignoring it.
- Rewrite your ten best-selling listings so the title describes the product and the description answers the questions a buyer would ask out loud.
- Fill every attribute field on those ten listings. Then do the next ten.
- Check your own website’s robots.txt for AI crawler blocks, including OAI-SearchBot.
- Add a channel. If you sell on one marketplace, you have one route in, and it is not yours. Use Nembol’s multichannel listing tool to cross-publish your Etsy catalog to eBay, TikTok, Temu US, Google Merchant, Meta Commerce, Pinterest, and many more.

Frequently asked questions
Does my Etsy shop show up in ChatGPT?
If you sell in the United States, very likely yes. Your Etsy shop is on ChatGPT automatically if you are enrolled in Offsite Ads, because Etsy partnered with OpenAI and brought US sellers in through that programme. Any product listed on Etsy is eligible to appear.
Do I need to do anything to get my Etsy listings into ChatGPT?
No. Getting your Etsy shop on ChatGPT requires no setup, because the integration reads Etsy’s existing catalog. What matters is whether your listing is the one the assistant picks, which depends on titles, descriptions and attributes rather than on any technical step.
Are eBay listings in ChatGPT shopping?
eBay has not publicly announced a catalog syndication deal with OpenAI. eBay listings may still be discoverable where pages are crawlable, but there is no automatic enrolment equivalent to Etsy’s.
Can I opt out of having my products in ChatGPT?
It depends on your sales volume. Etsy requires shops that have taken $10,000 or more in any consecutive 365-day period since 20 February 2019 to stay in Offsite Ads for the lifetime of the shop, at a 12% fee on attributed orders. Shops that have never crossed that threshold are enrolled automatically at 15% and can opt out. For your own website, disallowing OAI-SearchBot in robots.txt removes you from ChatGPT shopping.
How do I optimise my listings for AI shopping?
Write titles that describe the product rather than stack keywords, answer conversational questions in the description, and fill every structured attribute such as material, size, colour and occasion. Assistants match against natural language and filter on attributes.
Does AI shopping replace marketplace SEO?
No, it extends it. Whether your Etsy shop on ChatGPT actually sells anything depends on the same complete, accurate, well-described listings that rank in Etsy or eBay search. There is no separate AI version of your product data to maintain.
Which marketplaces have AI shopping deals?
As of September 2026, Etsy and Shopify have catalog syndication with OpenAI. Amazon has an advertising integration rather than a commerce partnership. eBay and TikTok Shop have not publicly committed either way.
